I keep hearing over and over about how all the Democrats and the majority of the country wants background checks for gun buyers. I buy a few guns a year and have had background checks run every time plus they have a waiting period before I can pick them up. I am guessing either they don’t know the law or they are referring to person to person purchases. If that is the case why don’t they explain that we have background checks but also want to expand it to include person to person purchases ? It seems they want the uninformed public to believe that anyone can buy a gun without a background check. Do they think we are stupid ? The big issue is that they don’t prosecute and enforce the gun laws on the books now. When a person is found to obtain a gun illegally they are supposed to be charged with a crime and do some time. But you always hear that is racist ? Why is that racist? Tell me if I am missing something here. I live in Florida where we have to do background checks and assume it is the same everywhere

Like the non-existent "Gun Show" loop hole.

Doesn't happen..

Buy a gun at a gun show, get your background checked. If someone is not checking backgrounds, prosecute him for not following the law.

No you're right the left plays to their ignorant base that does not know or care what current laws we have. They just see a picture of a gun that a kindergartner drew with his colors and freak the frick out and claim the world is burning down and we need to have papa government come saves us all from ourselves.

They want background checks for all firearm purchases. That means when a citizen sells a gun to another instate citizen. They are purposely leaving out key details to get an emotional reaction from the citizens.

That is pretty much it.

Anti Gun nuts are pretty damn ignorant. Some of their views will make your head spin.

If you're going to be against something, at least learn the basics.

Gun shows do have citizens that don't have FFL licenses that will setup a booth that are looking to trade, buy, or sale firearms. The thing that the media/gun control advocates leave out is that the fact that they are at a gun show doesn't change anything.

These guys also have a limited stock of usually older guns. A guy that I used to hunt with does this. He will have 1 maybe 2 racks of usually shotguns and few rifles. The guys with the tables of new pistols are FFL dealers that have to a 4473 to sell a gun.

It's been a while since I have been to a gun show but usually they are only 1 or 2 booths that are collectors looking to make a deal.

Not disagreeing with you but I've had to have a BG check with every gun show purchase. Both FFL and private sale. was told if it was purchased at that venue it must have a BG check. If we left he venue and completed the sale elsewhere it's our own business.

If you got to gun shows you know better. Hundreds of transactions between individuals at gun shows every weekend with no background checks. I don't go to many but I do get hanged into going to a couple a year (I have friends who love going to them and paying $5 and $10 to fondle other men's weapons....I don't get it). There are bunches of individuals walking around with guns selling them to who ever has the money to buy....most allow indidual a to rent tables and sale and buy to and from anyone.

I have never understood why the FFLs don't raise holy hell about this. An individual should have the option of a FFL doing the background check and recording the transfererance of ownership. If an individual fore goes all of that and a gun they owned and sold is used in a crime they should be charged with failing to comply with the same laws that a FFL has to comply with. Buying guns online and having them shipped across state lines requires this....but it is the shipping part that is regulated. If you drive across the line there is nothing stopping you from buying a gun from an indidual ....that is simply wrong from a commerce stand point with licensed dealers.......

Are you talking about a NICS delay?

Do you think Wolf Blitzer has ever seen a gun in real life, let alone held or fired one?

The American public is largely ignorant of gun laws, even many gun owners included. The intellectual elite, born in white bread suburbs just outside major metros, raised in private schools and museums and art galleries - they have no idea what the process of buying or selling a gun looks like.

I guess the point is -this isn't a federal requirement.

quote:

Both FFL and private sale.

For optics or just their own peace of mind, the venue may be requiring the private sellers to run the transaction through one of their FFL vendors. And I'm okay with that.

What the libs want is to make all private citizens run a background check on every transfer, including gifts to family, friends and inheritance, thus "federalizing" title to firearms and effectively criminalizing all non-FFL traffic in said weapons.

I want to make sure I understand your point before I call bullshite - are you implying I can cross state lines and buy from a FFL? Otherwise your sentence is confusing you say individual, then licensed dealer.

There are no regulations on private individuals. The price of admission of being an FFL dealer, which allows you to buy/sell guns through the mail is that you follow certain rules, including 4473 and background check requirements. If you don't have an FFL, you are not so bound (and shouldn't be).
