The fact is that women, on average, earn about $0.95 for every dollar a man makes at the same job with the same title. That nickle is hardly a wide margin, and there are multiple factors that it could be attributed to - with virtually no evidence to suggest that it has anything to do with workplace discrimination. In addition, there are many jobs that women earn more than men for the same title... social workers, health educators, communications, etc.

The stat of women making 70 cents on the dollar that men make is when you compare the average of all women's jobs and all men's jobs.

Studies have been done that show men and women do not do the same jobs. Men without college degrees do harder work that pays more such as construction, welding, plumbing, electricians, etc. Women don't do those jobs. Men and women who went to college also choose different degrees. The most popular men's degrees are things like engineering, business, finance, etc. The most popular women's degrees are things like education, counseling, and business.

So the fact is that men tend to choose fields with higher pay whether they went to college or not.

Studies have also found that when you compare men and women with the exact same job with the same years of experience and all things being equal that women make 97 cents for every dollar a man makes. And those 3 cents they found were chalked up to things like men being willing to work longer hours and taking less vacation time.

Many studies have shown this. The gender wage gap is a myth that may have been true many years ago, but isn't anymore. Politicians continue to say it because they can use it to help with the female vote. They don't care if it isn't accurate.
