Trump asked that same questions..
Sounds like the Skipped jumped the chain of command in an E-mail blast to cover his arse

I saw nothing about shore leave in the article.

The article says that an admiral in San Diego confirmed that crew members would go ashore for some sort of PR stunt.
How is the Skipper responsible for that?

He could have said "This is not a good idea. We aren't doing it."

Here's a nice video of Sailors soaking up the Vietnamese culture. The Captain is in the video enjoying the locals ricking infection

You've posted three different links to make your case. There was nothing in your first link that said they went ashore. That's what my post was based on.

No one can take responsibility for shite these days. It is always someone else’s fault and that is why this country is going down the shitter.

Unless someone outranks him, like an admiral, and tells him you will do it.

The shore leave is forgiveable. But he wasn't removed for allowing shore leave. He was removed for violating chain of command, leaking OPSEC to the public, and endangering his crew and crews of other ships.
No justification round shore leaves is necessary. He deserved to be canned. He deserved handcuffs at the end of the gangplank, quite frankly.
