Now isn’t a good time to go after farmers, they’re struggling bad as it is.

Several rowcrop operations around my catfish farm just closed up and auctioned their equipment and are either selling or leasing the land.

Lot of family farms about to land in the hands of Blackrock, Gates, etc

It’s sad to see.

My thing is self reliance and have been preaching this for a long time.

I have little sympathy for those people who's sole duty in life is to feed the machine and havent learned how to do the menial tasks men have done throughout history.

We have lost a lot of knowledge due to lazy arse men who chose consumerism.

i have 20 million acres and rivers/lakes/ocean here in SE AK, which is the size of Florida with only 70k people.

I'll be fine.

I lived and worked in Delta Junction, beautiful country. No way you could survive without farmers long term. Growing season is like 3 months. Even with a freeze dryer, you could not process/store enough vegetables/grains for the winter. You could catch some Salmon, Copper River Reds are outstanding. I doubt you could catch enough though. You could hunt Moose, Caribou and get meat there. But when all of those 70K are doing the same, you will deplete the supply rather quickly.

Delta Junction is absolutely nothing like Coastal Alaska. Not even close.

Sad but no different then us small oil companies going out of business last time Saudis flooded the market and our revenue stream went from 100 dollar a barrel to 30 .. sounds like early retirement to me… our owner should have managed the company different also..

Yes they know weather can affect their income not only can it affect their income it could cause them to go bankrupt if it is bad enough. Also other industries do have risk insurances. For example builders have builders risk insurance. As far as the government subsidizing it I'd like to know the specification to get those subsidies, but I would imagine it has something to do with the fact the government relies on farmers to not only feed and clothe people in the US but also is a big part of the US economy. I'd also like to know which farmers are getting these benefits is it only big corporation farms or small family farms as well cause I can say I haven't received my check from the government yet.

No joke Dick Tracy. You so smaaaaart. Point is you can't survive without farmers. I'll bet you couldn't survive 1 summer without any products from farmers. Let alone a winter... Wanta bet?

Your friends would be liars. You can't legally catch enough. Even if you have subsistence fishing, you can only catch a limited amount.

Trump gave farmers a massive bailout during his first term.

I've seen their haul.

Not only do they get enough to full a couple freezers for themselves, they also get enough to feed the dogs year around.

Son, you would be dead long before I if you lived in Delta Junction and think there arent people there who live off the land.

Do you know why? Because you think food comes from a grocery store.

If they feed Copper River Reds to their dogs, then they are stupid. They might feed pinks. But even pinks limit you to 6 a day per person. The run is only a couple weeks. You can certainly supplement your food supply, but no way you can replace farmers.

My grandfather was a farmer, had 6 sons. Not one of them wanted anything to do with farming when they got old enough to leave home.
I live on the family estate that my grandfather left.

Wife and I make a garden and grow some vegetables, kill a couple a deer a year, that’s our primary source of meat.
I’ll be a sonofabitch if I want to start gardening to the extent we have to provide all our own food.Supplement yes, total food supply, hell no.Call me lazy if you want.

Neighbor up the road and his son farm 5,000 acres and raise cattle, they work their asses off.
One rainy fall day I stopped by and he pointed out a new combine he paid $850,000 to harvest his soybeans.Had so much rain he couldn’t get in the fields, lost his whole crop, but he still had to pay for the combine. If he got crop insurance or subsidy or whatever to stay afloat it’s fine by me.

They cant eat it all, goober. Would you rather they throw it away?

I have a handicapped friend in rural North Pole who does this, fishes the Kenai river dipnet fishery, hunts moose and has her own greenhouse, spends very little at the grocery store.

One day you city boys will learn food dont come from the grocery store

You're the one that implied you could live without farmers, I did no such thing. Even those that "live off the land" don't do it 100% without farmers.

No, it comes from farmers and without them you would starve. Again, take me up on my bet. I'd love to watch you starve to death.
