Am I supposed to care? Sure, I'm Western. Call me occidental. Referring to someone based on the general area they are from in no way suggests the belief that they are inferior on the whole in some way. How is it "racist?"

Preferential reference to the group as "Asians" is particularly odd given the fact that Indians and Russians are most assuredly Asian too.

One of the more famous Russians of all time...

Well, now. Because someone took offense. But, "Asian" is wickedly non-descriptive. shite tons of Russians live in Asia. East Asians are different from South/Subcontinent Asians and different from Central Asians and different from Southwest Asians.

Because of the offense industry, we had a word that was pretty descriptive (Oriental used to describe a person of classic, East/Southeast extraction, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Laotion, etc., differentiated from Indian/Pakistani, and Polynesian/Micronesian, etc. Now, it's offensive, probably because it is fairly specific) and it's been replaced by a word that basically means, non-European, non-African, non-American/Latin American.

It literally means, "of the east" in Phoenician.

We're being told that the Phoenician word for 'East' is not racist, while the Latin word for 'East' is.
