before arguing over micro details of certain positions or parties can we first discuss what should be the core motivation behind voting on a particular issue.

I would like to just define motivations not in any particular direction or order to assign to any one position, and simply discuss if we should speak out against the motivation for voting vs the position.

Example:

Self/Greed position: I vote based on what is best for me and me alone at any point in my life. When I'm poor, I'll vote more taxes, When I'm rich, I'll vote less taxes. When I'm young I'll vote to decrease Social security, When I'm old I'll vote to increase Social security.

Team Position: I vote based on what I think is best for the country in general regardless if it will go against me morally, economically, or socially. (Take one for the team)

What other motivations are there, or are these too general and need to be drilled down?
