Because of the love and respect I have for this country, and the State of Alabama, in order to remove the possibility of a terrible Democratic candidate from taking the seat, as well as eliminating any possibility of a challenge to being seated when I won, I can no longer continue with this campaign.

While I know this is disappointing, and while I deny the allegations that have been made against me, there is too much at stake to leave this to chance. This is bigger than one man.

I ask my supporters to resist the urge to vote for me as a "protest" against unethical and slanderous politics and cast "write in" votes for Mr. Mo Brooks.

Thank you. God Bless You. God Bless the State of Alabama and the United States of America.

- Roy Moore announces that he will step down right after the election.
- Let Ivey appoint Brooks or someone who would be an adequate replacement.

Roy Moore can go back to the speaking circuit and make money by saying he was a martyr. That’s what he is happiest doing anyway.

Why? He's going to win and be a US Senator.

A plan for what?

I don’t think he will ever step down. He’s going to win and he’s going to be the next Senator.

Why does he want to be a US senator ? If he won it won’t be pretty for him. He should drop out and run for governor in 2018 if he wants to run for something

Yea...either our democratic process or our legal process.

Sure lets go the "i'm innocent but I quit" route so the GOPe gets its whipping boy in there

A dead Roy Moore will beat Doug Jones. That's not pretty for Doug Jones. Ask John Ashcroft how that feels. Moore has the support to win. Why should he concede so Jones could win?

Too many different write-ins...Luther Strange is a candidate for write-in...Mo Brooks....all this equals splitting of the Republican votes...resulting in a sure fire win for Jones.

Nope, nope nope.

I like this!

Otherwise if Jones is elected because of this 11th hour BS against Moore...how do we recall Jones?

There was a time when the Republican party stood for morals....Now they are defended people like Trump and Roy Moore accused of dating 8-10 Graders while being 30 years old.

If he drops out and endorses a write I’m assuming the write in wins. Option 2 would be to win than quit and focus on a 2018 gov run. I don’t believe he should want to serve in the senate even if he won.

He’s been running for office for decades trying to climb up the political ladder. As Governor, he would have to actually manage people and be an executive, something he has never done. That job doesn’t fit his skillset. As a Senator, his job would be to speak and vote. He could serve until he dies.

So why wouldn’t he want to be Senator?

I have heard from people I trust that Jones is a good person and has a lot of integrity. I believe that. That’s great and all but Jones is also a liberal. If Jones somehow won, he faces two paths:

- Vote in lockstep with the Democrats and Schumer. If he does that, he will without question be a one term Senator.

- Be a true “independent” and become a Shelby type who stays out of the fray, focuses on stuff behinds the scenes, and votes with the GOP on major issues like Healthcare, Judges, etc. If he does that, then he would have a longer lifespan in the Senate.

Moore is being selfish. He should have dropped out yesterday.

Actually I believe if he tries to stay out of the business of politics and sides with conservatives, the die-hard liberals would sabotage him eventually. He wouldn't hold any committee seats or any power in the Democratic side.

And by the way..I looked it up...Alabama doesn't have a means to recall him.
