This is true. Sadly, some of people in my age group (20s) enjoy having their opinion made for them. They want to be cool and "informed" so they watch some jokey political show and that is it. They do this because most are brain dead idiots that can only consume something serious through the medium of jokes. Which, when you really get down to it, is sad.

but in time it will swing back around as well.

You say that this progress of US history is metaphorically like a circle or a pendulum that will "swing back", but, what evidence is there that the USA has turned around and headed back to what our culture was like in, say, 1946?

My point is that there's nothing in the historical record to indicate such a "swing back". The progress of US history since 1945 has been a Long March to the Left. Two steps forward, one step back, yes. Trump is a set-back or a step back for this progress, but, rest assured, the progress will continue. Two steps forward, one step back.
Two steps forward, one step back.

The USA no longer has the capacity to reverse this progress of its own history. The "anti-bodies" that might resist the "infection" are either damaged or no longer exist.

It will take awhile but once they actually take power, the weaknesses of their ideas show themselves.

My next comment is not to be interpreted as taking you to task...

I would make your point in a different way. Their ideas are not merely "weak", rather they are (often) deeply flawed because they fundamentally have a flawed/erroneous view of life, human nature and the world we live in. (see climate change... ) That plus in some cases (not necessarily all..) they have completely self serving motives for espousing certain things...

When your ideas flow from such wrongness and you actually live out your beliefs in practice.. none of your errors will change the inexorable nature of life, human nature or the world we live in... as such they set themselves and anyone that is influenced by their principles for what is often a rude and brutal catastrophic failure.

Facts are stubborn things...

That is much better worded. I just rant out whatever is in my head and hit submit. You got the point of what I was saying though
