If you think the coal industry is going to make a comeback, youre a lunitic. its just plain inefficient and not work the extraction cost .

There is a lot of truth to this. Unfortunately, there aren't practical and effective alternatives.

It's strange though because when I'm asked for input on permit language of rule revision.. the people writing those permits are relatively low level.

Sounds like a conspiracy..

I listen to bankers about banking issues, and coal miners about coal mining issues. I don't think it is wise to tell a guy who makes his living under ground how you are here to help him from killing himself

Sounds dumb. What does a coal miner know about oncology, emissions, or environmental impacts? Very little probably.

I'd get my info from experts and scientific literature.. and base decisions on that

Those people usually aren't deciding policy.

Probably quite true. I bet the corp they work for doesn't give a damn though.

If they're on the hook for damages, they do.

The industrial world has changed quite a bit since the 50's. It's not in a companies best interest to destroy their environment

They decide on the wording and the specifics given input from a board or committee. Typically, when I see high level people benefit from their influence it's via deregulation or it just goes into the black hole of enforcement lawyers never to be seen again

Um...isn't Natural Gas basically pricing coal out of the market regardless of environmental regs?

Nevertheless, that's the result. People are able to rationalize away a lot of their principles when money's in the picture.

So, you withhold opinions on every subject till all due research is done? What do you do, bump threads three years later
And if it comes to answering a question if I am at risk of dying in a coal mine. I will trust a coal miner over the EPA or the oncologist in my home town.
