WBR Parish: "Gas tax? We don't need no stinkin' gas tax!" (New by-pass connector)

Legislation to pave the way for a new lane in each direction on Interstate 12 between the I-10/12 split and Walker, and ease daily traffic backups, won final legislative approval Thursday when the House passed it 82-2.
On the same day, a bid to fast-track a major road project in West Baton Rouge Parish – the La. Highway 415 connector – using some of the proceeds from the 2010 Gulf oil spill cleared a major hurdle Thursday when the Senate Finance Committee approved it.
The La. 415 connector would provide a three-mile flyover between the La. 415/Lobdell exit and a point on La. 1 between Port Allen and Plaquemine.
Doing so, backers say, will ease traffic on the "new" Mississippi River bridge, the Intracoastal Bridge and La. 1.
The work would be financed by reshuffling how dollars from the Deepwater Horizon disaster are allocated.

That best be a overpass (bridge) going over highway 1 connecting to 988 and not a fricking another traffic light.

quote:Close proximity of LA1 to 988 might make that unfeasible since you have to get a long running start to pitch up and a corresponding long stretch to pitch down.

With the ebbs and flows of gas prices we have gotten use to I don't get why a 1 or 2 cent increase isn't manageable. Though I know many on the govt push say 10cents is needed.
Problem is that we don't have politicians that can budget their own budgets, and we depend on them doing it for our govts. Crazy.
I would vote for an increase that was tied to projects, and their completions. No low balling quotes. I'd cut the highest/lowest bids out of the gate, and then go from there. Tell the people that we need X amount for Y period of time, and keep to it. Only way to gain trust to tap that option again.
Really not that hard to come up with different basic options, but wouldn't benifit the politicians.

Roads don’t pay for themselves.
Taxes or tolls, something has to happen if BR wants out of gridlock.

Something like a competent local government.

Is there still a strip club near the dead end of that road?

I guess WBR doesn't need a gas tax...they just took money targeted for the state's rainy day fund.
Not a sustainable long-term solution for funding infrastructure.

You realize a gigantic mill tax has just been passed within the last year? The roads and traffic are so much better with more taxes.
/end sarcasm

Come join the Public Facebook Page “Block the Mobile Bayway Toll” is just about the toll they are forcing on us but the tolls being forced on everyone. Our brand is NO Toll. Period. It was started by Alabama State Auditor, Jim Zeigler that states there is Federal funding available for the Mobile Bayway Bridge without a toll. We pay our taxes and then states want tolls. Just say NO! We are 13,000+ strong and growing. We look forward to seeing you.
