The $6000 deduction has nothing to do with Soc. Security. This is only for people 65 yrs or older, who report an adjusted gross income of less then $75K per year for s single filer and $150K for couples. That's it.

I ask out of ignorance. What fraction of federal tax revenues come from taxing social security? If it's less than around 10%, why tax it?

“He said "No taxes on Social Security", that means 0 tax for everyone drawing SS. Big difference.”
It has been explained to him he knows the truth he is just lying at this point.
His man fact checked him immediately..
So … again… about 66 percent of people on ss are not paying taxes because their income is below the deduction ..( standard.. which everyone gets and another1200 fo over 65)..
About 12 percent of the people on ss will make to much total income and be phased out of any new deductions..
About 22 percent of the people already claiming standard deductions and the 1200 senior deduction will be able to take a new Deduction if 6000 against their total income.. which in their case was be more than their ss..
I believe if over 65 and not drawing ss yet you still get the additional 6000 senior deduction.. thus an income deduction for seniors and clearly not
“ no taxes on ss”
Fwiw I will still be paying taxes on ss..
PT Barnum would be proud.

“ask out of ignorance. What fraction of federal tax revenues come from taxing social security”
From what I have read taxes on ss go back directly into a bucket only for ss.. thus the removing of taxes on ss actually removes money for the funding of ss and moved the year of non funded up a few years.

How bout NO PROPERTY TAX and NO INCOME TAX!!
Mississippi currently has Zero State Income Tax on all retirement accounts. 401 K, etc.
Grocery tax reduced to 5% as of 07/31/25, State Income Tax gradually eliminated over the next 10 years.
