They can bury anything in their feedback loop.

Allegations come up -> Media says they hear nothing "legitimate" but is investigating -> Politicians parrot this back to media who are "investigating" saying nothing "legitimate" has been reported -> Media reports that the claims are unsubstantiated, ignored by politicians as baseless attacks -> media follows suit and then ignores it too -> "truth" has been manufactured
