Mossadegh was selected by Iran’s equivalent of parliament.
No. He wasnt. He was the coup. Heres the receipts
quote:
Timeline
12 July: PM Mohammad Mosaddegh openly announced his intention to hold the referendum, asking people to either choose between his government or the 17th Parliament
14 July: The decision to hold the referendum was approved by the cabinet.
3 August: The referendum was held.
13 August: The official results of the polls were declared by the interior ministry.
16 August: Mosaddegh officially announced the dissolution of the parliament.
19 August: The Shah orders Mosaddegh's arrest who was charged with treason, and imprisoned for three years
The coup was the part where he in his own words defied the 1906 Constitution to legitimize the dissolution of Parliament.

"the will of the people is above law"
The CIA only stopped the coup, so there was never an overthrow of a 3-day old govt

Yes. Actually looked up old newspaper articles about it.
A little over halfway through the book and the Ayatollah just overthrew the government.
Book does a good job of showing why the Shah fell and how out of touch he was. Everyone ganged up to throw him out. Could do a better job of showing how we put the Shah back in power and the background to it.
The regime still might have fallen apart but Saddam invading Iran gave the Mullahs an excuse to deflect away from their horrible policies. The Mullahs and Communists were really going at it. The invasion gave them the excuse to put the commies away and have everyone rally around the flag.
