Victims of Toronto mass shooting using S&W

I understand grieving and anger from being a victim but this is getting to be ridiculous.
victims suing S&W
Their grievance is lack of technology used to only allow the owner to use the firearm.
The article goes to to complain about lack of technology yet law enforcement are often killed or wounded by their own weapon and they don't employ any "smart" firearms. Law enforcement sure hasn't been begging for that technology and I will wager that any smart gun legislation or settlement that passes will not require law enforcement to utilize it.
Here's the deal what people don't understand. Technology can't save you from yourself. If some one wants to commit a crime, they will do it and you better believe no matter what "smart" feature is used they will have figured out a way to defeat it.

Victims of a mass shooting in Toronto have launched a class action lawsuit against gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson, alleging the company failed to implement key safety features in its weapons that could have prevented the 2018 attack.

Often taking the form fingerprint sensor or a radio-frequency microchip, numerous “smart gun” technologies exist that can prevent unauthorized firing of a weapon.
How many times is this absolute nonsense drivel going to be repeated
They don't exist. They are at best lab projects.
If they existed and worked law enforcement and the military would already be using them across the board

we all know the victims are really concerned about the lack of technology. Just looking for a pay day.

Shouldn't "smart cars" detect alcohol to prevent such tragedies as well ? If we go down that road the slope is slippery !

Sue the company that mined the ore.....

IMHO this is more of a payday for lawyers than victims. If they can sue for misuse of a product, then no product is safe.

I think every gun manufacturer has been sued like this to no avail.

Maybe we can get Smart Technology in the voting booth that keeps the brain dead libs from voting.

The problem arose when a judge allowed the suit against Remington to go forward. Canada took note and now trying their hand at it.

I’m sure the push on here is one or both of the following-
1. Make “smart” firearms mandatory as to raise the price of weapons to make them unaffordable
2. “Smart” firearms will either be wholly unreliable, preventing someone from lawfully defending themselves, or will be required to have some form of override that inactivates them in the presence of a signal
The overall effect of either would be to disarm civilians en masse.

I would say all that is half of it. What I mean is lawyers profit by being able to sue everything and gun control advocates get to infringe further on gun owners. Much like we see leftists using kids to promote transgenderism, I see the same with lawyers and gun control advocates .

Agree. But we all know this is the only one they will go after. Has anyone gone after the Big 3 after DWIs?

Not that I know of but you can bank of them getting targeted next. Alcohol companies and stores too. This is a pandora box that should not be opened.

They've got the technology it's simply not infallible.
It also requires a battery to work which is tough to design into a handgun .... added weight, larger grip dimensions and reliability issues not withstanding.
Any time to try to build smart lock technology into something that unlocks something inherently mechanical which is also under incredible stress when it use .... it's just about impossible to pull off.
Then you get into hacking issues, pulse blocking issues (like small scale EMPs disrupting the chip's functionality) and sand, dirt, carbon fouling issues as well as cleaning issues where oiling and soaking with solvents would immediately render the firearm useless .... it's just not gonna happen any time soon.
