US Seeks Leasing Rights for 17 Venezuelan Oil Fields

Some details on what the US is asking for here.
17 oil fields. Man, that's a lot. What a great day for America! Such a nice, round number.

A list of 17 fields in negotiation seen by Reuters includes green fields in the vast Orinoco Belt combined with mature areas in Lake Maracaibo, some of which are currently operated by a small Chinese firm whose contract was signed during Maduro's administration.

I'm pretty sure this is happening as well. I think I read that they're building at least 3 new ones.
I also read today that they're greenlighting the development of nuclear powered oil tankers with the first ones to be built in 2028.

It will take a long time to get those field operational. By which time... a new government will be in place in both countries. A decade from now that might be great, but a decade from now Venezuela will be wiping their behinds with this agreement.

It is going to be interesting to see how long we can put off having a legitimate Venezuelan election. We've so far been very vague and noncommittal about it despite a populace and legitimate opposition that are growing more vocal.
