I don't understand, someone help me out here, please.... Senators must be present to vote.

In a roll-call vote, the clerk calls senators’ names alphabetically, and each responds “yea” or “nay” (or may be excused under certain rules). Votes are recorded that way; the Senate has no electronic voting system like the House. Senators can still vote after the initial call as long as the vote remains open (typically a minimum of about 15 minutes, sometimes longer), but they must be on the floor to do so.
