Nothing, was just responding to early school age stuff. I think I can still smell the rolls and the taste of the peanut butter....:-)

My younger brother was only nine when our mom died. It's etched in his brain. You saying he was too young to remember that? Damn man. Yeah, he doesn't remember exact events surrounding the day she died but no one has to tell him "stories" about it.

I would love to do this...I’m 46 now.
You can... but you'll have to position yourself for that change. For me, I had to wait until my two boys were grown, out of the house, and getting them through college debt free. Just because I wanted this lifestyle, I didn't want to impose that on my kids. Once that was accomplished... I made the move back to rural life. Similar setting that I was raised, in CENLA. Just further North in the Heartland.
Make a plan... consider the impact on others you care about... and implement when the time is right (or when you get tired of having neighbors).
PRO TIP: To get your kids to move out... call your internet provider and ask for the slowest speed available.
They'll be gone within a month.

I miss pizza Friday’s. Probably terrible food but it seemed great at the time

Yea because it affected his life personally and his routine. I bet he remembers that.
Do I think your brother remembered a newsreel when he was 6? No. But if you talked about it later in his life, he probably remembers that

I was in the first grade when JFK was killed. They let school out early.A kid in my class was crying and then our teacher,Mrs Willoughby, old as dirt to me then, asked if he knew him....????...MLK and Rfk assinated..
I didn't really grasp it,but the LBJ years were a trip..damn,so much went on in that time frame,it was crazy..
I guess that's why today's crap seems kind of tame..
We went from Ozzie and Harriet to full blown crazy..
Hippys, riots, protests, vietnam death counts every night on the news...the russian threat of nuclear war...
good times...

I don't associate myself with the word wise. I am proud of learning how to cultivate a heart of gratitude and I don't always learn from my mistakes and I am real picky about which hills I am going to bleed upon.
As for childhood memories, precious little until entering school, assume it was leaving that nuclear family cocoon. My wife recounts stuff at age three and I think, no way

To the OP’s defense, I was 5 when the Challenger disaster happened and I clearly recall every bit of it. I’m sure that didn’t carry near the impact of a Presidential assassination.

Was some heady stuff in those days, no doubt. We darn sure seem more lethal in resolving disputes now when compared to back then

If you can't remember something as drastic as an assassination when you're seven years old that says a lot about you.
I remember coverage of Watergate when I was 6 or 7. I remember bits of kindergarten, first grade. Lots of things if I try.

Yep, you're young and I don't mean that in a bad way. I remember schools having to serve fish sticks on Fridays. It had something to do with Catholics. I think Wednesdays were our hamburger days. Not too many stayed away from school on that day.

All joking aside you seem like a solid, well adjusted person. I make light of situations but don’t change.
Have a good night

I’m young but you took what I said personally by bringing up your brother when your mom died.
The OP ran with it and didn’t get emotional. Grow up Homesick.

I was 11 when Kennedy was killed but the most vivid memory of that event was Jack Ruby. My older brother and I were playing pitch in the backyard. My dad opened the patio door and told us boys to come inside and look at what just happened. We saw a clip where Ruby had just shot Oswald. It was the first time I had seen a real murder on tv.

No, you attacked the poster about his memory as a young child by insinuating it wasn't possible to remember things at that age. You were proven wrong.

I turned the same age last year and feel the same. That was an eloquent summation. I seem to remember a poster on another board with the a similar handle and reasonable sensibility. If it’s the same, then I hope the years have been good to you. If not, I still hope the same.
