Assad is the best option Syria and the world could have. ISIS /Al-Qaeda would take Syria if Assad is removed from power.

I agree, although Assad needed Putin's help. If Assad was taken down Syria would turn in to what Iraq was. Hell it almost was until Putin intervened.

We told the Kurds from jump street "if you go after Afrin we will not support you, and you will be massacred."

The Kurds got big for their britches. They were devastated

Kurds had no business in Afrin or Manbij. Kurds should have just stayed east of the Euphrates river. They have showed good fighting, especially in mostly Kurdish areas like Kobane, they were literally almost fighting till the last man. In areas west of the Euphrates they had no business being there.

Turkey will expel the Kurds and repopulate Afrin with Turks. The Syrians will never get Afrin or Idlib back.

Somewhat, I disagree about Idlib though. Syria will be going after it once Ghouta is taken in eastern Damascaus and ISIS is expelled from southern Damascus area, imo. They already have a mass of troops right outside of Idlib and were pushing that way until they diverted to Ghouta region.

Assad is just as brutal and evil as ISIS. In a perfect world they both would kill each other off and leave Syria a better place. Make no mistake Assad is a monster but thanks to IS he has created a picture of him being a protector of "secularism" in the country.

I think many of the reports against him are false, but I do still think he is a brutal dictator. As someone who keeps up with this there have been issues recently where moderate rebels claiming Assad regime used chemical weapons against his own people only for the people in the area to come out and say it was militant rebels doing it and blaming it on Assad. A watch group just found in the last few days militant rebels in Ghouta putting chemical substances on top of roofs for when the Syrian planes bombed it would release alot of it and supposedly would be proof the Syrian army was dropping chemical weapons.

Again, the way he runs Syria is brutal compared to what we see done here of course but we are pretty damn hypocritical. We demand they stop bombing in Allepo and now Ghouta b/c innocent people are being killed but we ourselves killed tens of thousands of women and kids bombing Mosul, Raqqa, Fallujah, and so on. Basically we are bitching at them for doing the same things we did, and they are literally trying to defend their own country. I'd rather have one brutal dictator that leaves other countries alone for the most part than dozens of bad militant groups running the country. As I've said before, most of the Kurds and Christians even, felt protected under Assad.

The Kurdish defeat in Afrin was probably inevitable. The United States made clear months ago that Afrin was in the Russian-controlled zone and America wouldn’t intervene there. Russian forces, who had six outposts in the enclave and had promoted themselves as Afrin’s protectors, withdrew their troops two months ago and gave Turkey a green light for its assault. If the Kurds were betrayed in Afrin, it was by the Russians.

Finally found a long thread, maybe, maybe one post in it supporting the Kurds? Maybe. Nobody seemed upset back then about Kurdish annihilation, weird
