Not having a mandate means you don't have to buy insurance and can choose to self insure or pay out of pocket.
It does not mean when you get a very expensive illness you can jump on insurance the next month and the insurer has to cover your dumb arse for the same cost as a healthy person that is signing up.

I have not carried insurance for many years. Since the implementation of Obamacare, I have paid a penalty on my tax returns. While I do not like this bill, this additional 'tax' will be removed and I will not be forced to pay anything, since I do not carry insurance.

You need to review the DEMOCRAT argument before the SCOTUS that it was NOT a mandate but rather a tax.

Call it what you want. If you pass on signing up during open enrollment, then get sick, you should be shite out of luck, at least this will save your sorry arse for rolling the dice...as before Obamacare, there was an open enrollment with BC/BS for a month or so and that was it. That's the way it should be. Try calling a life insurance company while on your deathbed and see what you get.
