I know the case but does it not bother you that the Chairman of the House Ways and Means can subpoena and obtain any citizen's taxes for shits and grins?
It's not for shits and grins as you so eloquently put it.
If you are an attorney you don't need to go past page 2 of the 41 page ruling to see where Trumps attorneys tried to use case law from 1860. In a case Buchanan lost, funny enough.
"your Honor, we respectfully request this Court consider the unsuccessful argument from another President 150 years ago."

The entities will all be forced to comply with the subpoenas and trump will have shot his shot as far as stopping it from happening.
I understand that the businesses will potentially be compelled to produce his records. My question remains: what are the implications of that exactly? Why are these records necessary for Congressional Oversight considering *presumably* that any records they are able to obtain will be pre-Trump Inauguration. Congress may have the right to compel this stuff, but why are they? It is not really in the purview of House Oversight (or any Congressional committee) to investigate potential past tax indiscretions. It certainly is not the place of the Congress to go fishing for white collar crimes in past financial records just because they don’t like someone.
I understand that obtaining these records is a goal and a W for House Democrats. But i do not think that they have thought through the implications of compelling such production. Even putting aside the obvious result of opening up the door for using personal financial information for political gain...... Waiving around proof that Trump takes advantage of every possible tax loophole and short cut is not going to move the impeachment needle one iota. Everyone already knows and assumes that the wealthy do everything they can to lower their tax liability.
Tl;dr: Besides “beating Trump” and embarrassing him, what is the point of all this?

What do you consider to be the legitimate basis for their request? I’m not interested in what they tell the court, that is nothing but legalese.
They don’t have a reason, they just want to leak his tax liability to the low information masses.

Allowing congress to obtain financial records for political purposes is scary.
It will go a long way to keep successful and capable business people from running for office.
That will leave only professional politicians to choose from. Just what we need.

Mehta's reasoning invites Congressional tyranny . Under the standard that Congress suggests , no Congressional subpoena could be invalidated. The District Court gives Congress free rein to legally subpoena any docs and they are using the law to subpoena Trump's loan information in the Deutsch Bank case for shits and grins. The sole purpose of the subpoena is for a hearing to investigate if Trump as a private citizen did something wrong for the sole purpose of embarrassing the President . It is not the job or role of Congress to do that. Mehta has overstepped in his reasoning . He completely disregards legitimate 4th and 14th considerations.

Don't run for the President--stay out of it, stay in the private sector and be protected by the corporate veil. However, when you work for the gov't, paid by the people's taxes (my hard earn money and yours, if you work) and is endowed with certain powers over the populist/taxer payer, there has to be higher standard from the public employee to prevent human tendency to be abusive. Trump is the perfect example of a lunatic running amuck. It's not about politics, it's about transparency, corruptible influence, and accountability. I demand it for and as part of the People of the United States. This case is about the highest power of the land and how Trump has abused that power before and after he became president. Here's something most do not know, Trump ran for president not to be President--he wanted free publicity and advertisement for his Trump brand and himself--he did not expect the joke to go all the way. He regrets it now, too late. If every one knew what New Yorker knew of Trump, he would never been elected. He is not the Apprentice scripted guy. Vote for Andrew Yang in 2020--now he's a President/person I am proud of.
