Then why blanket, instead of targeted, tariffs?
Seems like a lazy deployment. But that doesn't mean there is 0 logic to it.

I got one for you since it seems like your blood pressure has lowered since yesterday.

Since the revised tariffs took effect, Hyundai Steel announced a $5.8 billion steel mill in Louisiana, demonstrating that the tariffs are working to bring more steel investments and production to the United States.
Bad idea trying to stick up for beaux david duke. That dude is a moron.

Cutting a deal with Vietnam means this was all a lie.
We shouldn't want Vietnamese manufacturing for the most part. Most, not all though, are kind of things you couldn't make affordably without a drastic lowering of standard of living in the US.
This is why targeted tariffs are more strategically beneficial. The things that are strategically important are not textile and electronic toys. It is disputable that we even should care about smartphones since they're largely becoming like a commodity anyway.
There are industries where it behooves the state to have on their shores and frankly they're not going to recreate the American employment horizons by reshoring them. The days of having a broad middle class based on many manning a spot on the assembly lines is over for the US. If you want to succeed in this country then you need to be good at school or good at picking up skilled trades to support all those good-at-school white collar's lifestyle. If not, hope you come from generational wealth or flip the burger I guess. I bet the Viet textile worker wishes they could pull shifts at Chipotle and live the life of that American.

I thought Hyundai made that announcement before the official roll out? It could have been in anticipation but I think the announcement was made before.

Yes, Hyundai made that announcement a week or two ago.

Vietnam will still make your clothes.
We aren't trying to bring textiles here.
We are trying to build more cars, appliance, batteries, etc.
