President Donald Trump said Tuesday night that he will nominate Anna St. John, who was confirmed to the federal bench in April, to serve on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

“Anna will continue to defend Americans’ Constitutional Rights on the Fifth Circuit,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Having cleared the Senate confirmation process just months ago, she was sworn in as a U.S. District judge sitting in New Orleans on April 23.

“Maybe it’s a sign that the Republicans think they could lose the majority in the Senate. So, they want to be sure. And she is the quickest way to do that,” said Professor Carl Tobias, a professor at the University of Richmond School of Law who closely follows federal judicial nominations.
