I'm no Internet Expert but I'm pretty sure the part of the post labeled "Update" and linking to the story dated May 16th was edited in later, after the original May 9th post, unless Digg was psychic and knew the link to the NYT story a week before it posted.

But of course that's only my guess. In order to be sure we would need some kind of magical archive machine to see how a webpage looked on a certain date in the recent past.

Anyone else? Seems half the forum wants to have a go at fricking this chicken.

I'm not sure if this point has been discussed so I will presume for the moment that it has not.

It seems there are quite a few posters who have made a distinction between Comey's buddy leaking the memo to the NYT versus one of his associates leaking some of the content of the memo to the NYT or other press by reading off of the memo.

Last night I heard a clip of Comey's testimony and something really stood out to me: he said something along the lines that he gave the memo to his buddy who then "leaked the content of the memo" to the NYT.

I take this to mean that the actual memo was never forwarded to the NYT by the Columbia law school professor. Instead, he only leaked the content of those memos.

If this is the case, then it is even more likely that Comey gave the memo to his buddy prior to Trump's "tapes" tweet. See the articles linked by NC_Tigah

Here is a link to his testimony:
quote:

COLLINS: And finally, did you show copies of your memos to anyone outside of the Department of Justice?

COMEY: Yes.

COLLINS: And to whom did you show copies?

COMEY: I asked — the president tweeted on Friday, after I got fired, that I better hope there’s not tapes. I woke up in the middle of the night on Monday night, because it didn’t dawn on me originally that there might be corroboration for our conversation. There might be a tape. And my judgment was, I needed to get that out into the public square. And so I asked a friend of mine to share the content of the memo with a reporter. Didn’t do it myself, for a variety of reasons. But I asked him to, because I thought that might prompt the appointment of a special counsel. And so I asked a close friend of mine to do it.

it still means that Comey leaked the memo to someone who in turn leaked it to nyt prior to Trump tweet.

Is Comey leaking the memo if he discusses it with others in the FBI? No.

The NYT May 11 article specifically says they got their info from 2 people in the FBI.

Does it?
I suspect you've been bamboozled.
quote:

The conversation that night in January, Mr. Comey now believes, was a harbinger of his downfall this week as head of the F.B.I., according to two people who have heard his account of the dinner.
Those two people are repeatedly referred to as ""associates"".
There is no mention whatsoever of them being "in the FBI". In fact later on May 16th, "associate" is exactly the term the NYTimes used to describe Comey's Columbia leaking conduit friend who had nothing to do with the FBI.

From the May 11th article:
quote:

During the meal, according to the account of the two associates
quote:

James B. Comey has told associates
quote:

By Mr. Comey’s account, his answer to Mr. Trump’s initial question apparently did not satisfy the president, the associates said.
quote:

“You will have that,” Mr. Comey told his associates he responded.
quote:

A White House spokeswoman on Thursday disputed the description of the dinner by Mr. Comey’s associates.
quote:

The dinner described by Mr. Comey’s associates came in the early days
quote:

Mr. Comey’s associates said that the new president requested the dinner he described
