Will never happen. It's has a shitload of asbestos. You would have to mitigate all of it before even allowing the actual construction workers in there to start refurbishing it.

Alcatraz would be a money pit just trying to repair its previous level of functionality from 60+ years ago much less getting up to modern day standards.

Asbestos and lead paint remediation needed to do some structural work to keep the main buildings from falling down on tourist is not the same as remediation needed to convert the entire island into a fully operating federal penitentiary. They would need to update every single building on the island as well as all of the utility and maintenance areas that are typically not needed for tourist visits.

And it reads as though this $50-63 million renovation/remediation is only for the Hospital Wing and exterior walls of the cellhouse. Have you been there? That is only a fraction of the island (with all of the underground spaces) and doesn't account for any remediation you would need to do before replacing almost all of the plumbing, HVAC, electric and massive amount of equipment and fixtures on the island you would need to convert it to a 21st century penitentiary. This 50-63 million is a drop in the bucket of what it would be if you shifted the project to actually updating the facility to again be a prison.

I did not say anything about the viability of using Alcatraz for a prison.

My point was that democrats and the left are pieces of shite that intentionally borrow/spend with the intent of bankrupting our country and doing some kind of a reset because they have a grudge from shite from 250 years ago. They have no problems spending billions to bring illegal criminals to our country and starting wars. They have no problem funneling tons of cash to NGOs, of which they get a cut.

They want my daughters to have to compete in sports and change in dressing rooms with perverted men who want to cosplay as women.
