LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — Republican U.S. Senate candidate John Fleming accuses Gov. Jeff Landry of orchestrating a controversial AI-generated attack ad as Louisiana voters prepare to head to the polls later this week for a hotly contested GOP primary.

The political action committee, Accountability Project, released a campaign ad featuring an AI-generated image of Fleming driving a school bus full of immigrants with a Mexican flag flying. The spot generated widespread discussion on social media.

Fleming, who is challenging incumbent Sen. Bill Cassidy alongside Rep. Julia Letlow in the Republican primary, claims Landry, a backer of Letlow, was behind the ad. He also accuses Letlow and Landry of spreading false allegations in other attack ads.

"They even tried to connect me with 9/11 of all things," Fleming said. "Julia Letlow, my goodness, Jeff Landry, have you no shame to say things like this, vile things, trying to connect me with the death of Americans?"

Fleming suggests he is being targeted with the school bus ad and other attacks because multiple polls show him as the current front-runner in the Senate race.
