quote:So greatest economic super power in history, dominating to this day, should start modeling it policies after the nations its dominating?
So tariffs have been used for centuries by tons of countries, but they're bad for us to use because free trade has worked so well?
It’s like arguing that Nick Saban should start modeling his program after Ole Miss or Tennessee.

Protectionism is a long term drain,
It is indeed....and our protection of world markets and worldwide security since the end of WW2 has drained the US of almost all meaningful employment opportunities.
The right has been all in on “free markets” and “free trade” since at least Reagan....yet y’all have also supported, at every opportunity, the chance to impose sanctions and tariffs on US Workers through subsidies handed to our competition in the form of safe passage worldwide and relatively stable markets for goods and services.
There is no free trade nor any free market when one group of workers foot the bill for ALL security in the world. This was a basic element of ALL Democrat campaigns until 1992 or so when both parties went all in on “Libertarian” worship of free markets BUT refused to acknowledge the anchor around the neck of US workers represented by gloated defense spending.
Trump is no committing the biggest mistake possible....raising taxes on US workers (tariffs are a tax anyway you slice it) AND increasing the subsidies to the world’s security......and many of you are all in! If there is anything certain in the world today it is that Donald J Trump has laid the lie to US conservative ideology, especially the idocracy of Reagan and Gingrich concerning economic policy. The GOP ain’t got a handful of conservatives left in their midst and good riddance to bad rubbish.....
