Today's USCIS memo about Green Card AOS (adjustment of status)

Basic summary is if you are in USA, either legally or illegally, and are trying to get a green card, you have to go back to your country and get approved there at a US consulate. You can't get a green card approved while remaining within USA (that process of getting a GC from some other visa/status while remaining in USA is called Adjustment of Status).
Applies to H1Bs as well, but not enough details available yet about how this will be enforced. Especially for H1Bs from India, this is a big deal as US consulate interviews in India are hard to come by.

This is absolutely huge. There are soooo many that have been here for years using the temporary visa and waiting on hearing bullshite to stay for over a decade. And while they wait they bring family over who also take jobs. We’re looking at potentially millions leaving from this
