3 parties is not realistic with the electoral college system.
Disagree.
The 2 party system developed in the 1st through 8th Congresses during the Unipartisan George Washington. The House Of Representatives drives the 2 party system and to a lesser extent the Senate. The executive was late to the party. Pun intended.

It seems like the two sides just keep moving farther apart and to the extremes.
This is exactly what politicians want you to think, that the 2 parties are different. Ask yourself, does anything really change between dem or repub presidents when it comes to how the gov is run?

In theory it would, and if that third party was powerful and influential enough it could but................if you ever want to see genuine bipartisanship between Republicans and Democrats just watch how they would work together to sabotage any attempt at a legitimate third party. Two's company, three's a crowd.

The 2 party system isn't working because both sides refuse to do shite to fix the problems and then continuously use those problems to campaign on and get reelected by stupid arse voters. So then you have the wishy washy independents that can't make up their minds whats good and bad and every 8 years switch from Republican to Democrat to Republican because their previous choices didn't fix the problems they were elected to fix so they try the other side.
So then Trump comes along and is a threat to this is why everyone hates him. It's been years since a President tried to fix problems. Now let's see what the wishy washy independents do in 2020 when they finally got the guy that would attempt to fix things. Will they continue to be stupid arse voters or vote for fixing things?

He isn't fixing the problem.
The "rule of law" still isn't being enforced.
We're still involved in multiple operations in the Middle East that we have no business in (Yemen!).
Medical costs are continuing to skyrocket. This alone will kill the U.S. economy.
The national debt is still ballooning.
Edit - I don't pretend to know the answer, but neither party is working for "We The People"

The two party system makes it easier to divide and conquer. Pick a side, follow blindly, and then hate the other side. That’s the way it is today.
