When we are in an election that we just went through and there are only two options (Trump / Biden or Harris) - Talking shite about Trump does not help.
Our country was on the brink of fundamentally changing for decades where if one candidate won, we have freedom and prosperity... if the other party won then we have Communism and adversity - You go all in on the candidate that promotes Freedom and Prosperity.
This was not an average election where if one party or the other won, the country would still be the same as far as freedom, etc, This was not the case in this last election. It was one extreme or the other extreme.
Usually in an election, if the other party wins, the country still stays somewhat the same. That was not the case in this last election.

Libertarianism is a failed and flawed ideology, so I’m not interested in being sold on its merits anymore. I listen to Smith a lot, and there’s signs of cracks in his own commitment to the dogma.
This is actually the reason why I listen to Dave Smith, he's a right-of-center realist about libertarianism and breaks from the party often (though if youre familiar with the party you'll know there is intra party disagreement on things like borders all the time so to say theres a libertarian Dogma isnt 100% accurate). In his view libertarians get too caught up in ideological purity and staying true to theory vs being realistic about what can actually be achieved. It's pretty clear that party won't be anything in our lifetimes, but a lot of the core ideas (anti-war, sound money, property rights) should be co-opted by the major parties. The libertarians best use case is exposing people to some of those ideas that they innately know are right, just need it verbalized.
For example, he praised Trump being at the convention because while the rest of the virgins in the party hated it, it boosted the libertarian voice and got a promise from Trump to release Ross Ulbrecht.

I agree with everything you said, however my opinion is that becoming a libertarian moving to the right ultimately leads to a rejection of libertarianism and a final acceptance of post liberal reactionary thinking. It happens over and over and over again with critical thinkers, which I think Smith is just enough of one for this to eventually play out.

Love the guy. Too honest to be a politician.
His honesty about his tribe was surprising, refreshing and thoughtful.

I've thought that he could be our own Milei. Dude's exposure is growing by leaps and bounds, and just like Milei, he can easily articulate both the moral and utilitarian arguments for libertarian principles. On top of that, he has an incredibly good grasp of the facts concerning the economy and especially of foreign policy.
If he got in front of enough people and if he is able to keep his popularity growing like crazy, he could be Ron Paul 2.0 but even better; He could eventually be the president.

We understand your perspective, we just don't all agree. It's okay.

Libertarianism is inherently utopian and there are aspects of it which just aren’t really practical. To me it has always been an ideal or a destination to which we should always be endeavoring to reach but never quite arrive.

Libertarianism is a paradox because it seeks to drastically weaken state power, which is a step that requires a tremendous amount of power
As the country currently is, it is not a possible step. For one small Balkanized autonomous region in the future? Maybe so, but I think it would fall to the same weaknesses that liberal democracy did.

Maybe so? I don’t know what that is.
I’m open to your critique of my thoughts or Daves’s, though.
