Pro Birth is not necessarily Pro Life

i'm actually going to engage this as a real argument.
i understand the sentiment. Republicans don't want abortion. Most women aborting are unmarried, and most likely financially unable to raise a child. Republicans also want a decrease in the welfare state thus saying "you have to have that baby because of your and the baby's father's (let's not absolve that a-hole of anything) bad decision making. Then when you have the baby and can't afford to raise them, we want to cut entitlements."
it's not hypocritical. it's just a double edged sword. it's demanding responsibility without a safety net. as a christian, i believe in grace and forgiveness and that we should help those mothers. but not at gunpoint from the government.
that being said, Christians adopt and foster parent at a much higher clip than the general populace as well as giving to charities. i wish the Church could meet the need entirely and it would shut leftists up about having the government do it for us. a lot of selfish assholes in the Church will have the attitude above without doing anything to help. May God have mercy on their souls.

We are literally importing children from third world countries to adopt...I am pretty sure someone would take all of these unwanted children.

i think they would... but to be honest, going through the process to foster and or adopt is a nightmare.
for an in-country adoption, we couldn't find it for anything less than $20k. That's not including the legal fees and that was a non-profit Christian agency. Going through for-profit was 2x3 times that much.
Now we need to curb abuse, so i'm all about having some safety nets and (God help me) regulation in there to make sure we aren't putting children in risky homes. But think about this: the average American would spend half their year's salary to adopt and take in an unwanted child and raise them as their own. There's something terribly wrong with that.

Interesting that abortions are tax payer funded but adoptions are not.
Maybe that should change.
Although, look, I’m not for taxpayers funding either. Just to be clear, I don’t believe the government should be funding any of it.
This should all be private sector, community based, faith based, charities, private donations, etc...

If every state did it like Florida, there wouldn't be over 100K kids looking for a home.

Pretty close.....cost was $5 and that's for the fingerprinting.
In Florida for STATE adoptions (shortish version), not private ones, you go through DCS and DCS will have (I don't know what they're called) but they will take a certain number of kids that are in foster care to a park and prospective parents can view them from a distant......shitty in 1 way and good in another. After that the prospective parents will tell DCS that they're interested in adopting a certain kid. DCS will set-up meetings with the kid & prospective parents at a park or fast food joint for short "visits". If the prospective parents want to take it a step further then DCS will set-up longer visits where it's just the kid and prospective parents for maybe an afternoon. Next step is weekend visits and if all goes well, the kid moves in and the adoption is done. Yes DCS will do a home survey to make sure you're OK and you have to take a 10 week "course"; 1 night a week for 10 weeks.
Questions?

Not very often
My wife and I adopted a boy; I've disowned him since he openly roots for the Gators

Man, that’s awesome!
Truly awesome.
I’m not married , but always thought that adoption would be something worthwhile.
I applaud you and the Mrs.

The state even pays for the legal stuff or will reimburse you if you want to hire your own attorney (I seriously don't know why anyone would tho).
The whole process was fairly quick; somewhere around 7 or 8 months from start to finalizing the adoption. The state will also re-do the kid's birth certificate to show the adoptive parents as the birth parents; this is done to cut all ties from the past so anyone from the kid's past can't track him/her down AND the kid can change their name if they want to.

And Liberals are the pillar of virtue when it comes to caring for children born and unborn right? look in the fricking mirror.

I applaud y’all. We started the process but hit some roadblocks.
We’re still involved with some foster care and children of jailed ministries, but that call is still on my heart.

Honestly, I can’t find any flaw with this and typically anything government run is so terrible it inspires anger. Rightfully so, I believe.
But this seems to be the rare case where they get it right.
I’m happy to hear your story and your explanation of something I had no idea existed.
This just seems right.
I wouldn’t complain about a penny of my money going to this process.

It’s a beautiful thing.
