The U.S. Army Reserve is checking whether it can supply U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) with military police, medical units, and logistics support within the next four months, according to an internal Army message reviewed by CBS News. Commands were asked about six unit types possibly needed in 90 to 120 days, including military police, medical, and logistics battalions, with responses due today. SOUTHCOM declined to comment on operational planning.

This follows months of reported U.S. planning around Cuba, including seafloor reconnaissance, airpower units placed on heightened readiness, and a July report on options including a hypothetical 101st Airborne air assault, officials stressed no decision to act had been made.

At the UN this week, President Donald J. Trump said the U.S. is seeking a "fundamental change" in Cuba and predicted its government "will fall," prompting the Cuban delegation to walk out. Cuban President Díaz-Canel has accused the U.S. of "aggression" and vowed to counter any attack.
