Well a Remington 700 series is typically preferred for such work. Thank God it was an AR-15 instead!!

You do realize that 130 yards is really not considered long range. Most hunters sight in their rifles anywhere from 100-150 yards depending on the terrain they are hunting. Elite snipers make 1000 yard shots. An AR in a .223 caliber is more than capable of making a 130 yard shot.
Now I do agree that most proficient shooters would likely choose a bolt action .308 or something similar if you had one chance for one shot at that distance and wanted to make sure it was a kill shot, but an AR would definitely be able to get the job done.
