The nicest and most moral person I know is a big time atheist.

Some of the biggest dickwads I know go to Church every Sunday.

Atheists attempt to convert more people than any religion. As a former Atheist I know I did and it was my mission. Atheists love to share their belief system.
My opinion is they're not atheists. Our souls are deistic, you can accept God or reject him. Atheism isn't actually an option. They have to constantly justify their rejection.

Well I know some great atheists, but I know trashy atheists also. Just like the general public you will have a mix. The difference is a Christian has a measuring stick to see if they failed, the atheist has themselves.

I agree up to a point. When I was a atheist I was angry at something I would say without a doubt didn't exist. But if it didn't exist why did I care? I could go much deeper, but that captures the surface thoughts.

The measuring stick for Christians is a belief in a book with many "chapters" one of which says there was a guy named Noah who built an Ark and all the animals in the world rode around on it.

I go to church every Sunday unless I have some kind of emergency, but that doesn't mean I feel it is a measuring stick. The measuring stick taught is belief in God as the way to eternal life.

There are no rules to atheism. Pure unadulterated hedonistic nihilism (ie, it's ok to rape babies) is the logical result. There is no way around it. Especially when you consider the NPC phenomenon and how easily people are swayed, the societal effects possible with atheism are horrifying. The greatest atrocities of the 20th century were committed by atheists.

Measuring stick is knowing evil from good. Knowing killing a baby in a womb is right or wrong . This is the moral measurement stick. You likely go to a liberal church that has allowed all sorts immoral thoughts and practices in. You sound like a Episcopalian or UCC.

There were a lot of atrocities commited by the Knights Templar, other Crusaders and what about Lutherans vs Catholics in Ireland?

Heck, what about all the crap Muslims have done. They're Muslims not atheists.

It happens when someone loses an argument. Throw the crusades in! That will get them.

No it is not. You said the greatest atrocities of the 20th century were commited by atheists.

I would say the biggest atrocities were done by Pol Pot who never renounced his Catholic upbringing (after spending time in a Buddhist temple too).

You are reaching. How about Russia and China? Come on you are the most dishonest person on this board.wow.

Pol pot was a Marxist pure and simple. Atheism is the bloodiest theogical system( I count it as a religion).

Don't care to nitpick. Nihilism - no morals, anything goes - is the result of atheism.

I'm not being dishonest, I stand by what I said, but okay, okay, maybe I tend to nitpick sometime and about that I am sorry, it's in my nature.

That said I just don't like grand generalizations about people. I also had very negative views about atheists until I met this guy and I would trust him with anything. I hope he comes to Jesus though, I do believe he will not see heaven.

Aubie, I am just curious. How did you go from being an atheist to a devout Catholic?

Pain and loss. I followed my own path for so long that I drove everyone out of my life. I was a left wing Marxist ( Self identified Communist) who hated God. But some people cared enough to invest in me and I actually started to read. Then read more, and after 10 years found my way. I had to be curious enough to listen and research uncomfortable subjects.

Interesting. What drew you to Catholicism specifically?

Studying and reading the church fathers. I researched Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism to seek. But was drawn back to the. Church fathers and this person Jesus. I am the only Catholic in my family, so it was shocking.
