Its weird how they call the slippery slope a 'fallacy', but the slope keeps on being slippery

quote:I actually agree with you completely on the problem being a lack of teaching, as well as poor application of the teaching that they have.
I say that it's probably difficult for many of your fellow congregants to keep what you say in mind.
It is far more easy to conclude "That person doesn't seem Christian to me. He must be predestined to go to Hell. If God hates him, I see reason for me to dislike and shun this person."
But this goes back to the universal challenge of catechizing the flock! If the flock can't or won't learn the correct doctrines, they are going to fall into error precisely because they failed to learn the correct way. Isn't every congregation and flock challenged by poorly catechized congregants? Of course.
I'm a Calvinist, and one of the things that primarily defines Calvinism is a focus on God's mercy and grace, and our inability to save ourselves. New Calvinists in particular will enter into what is often times called the "cage stage", where they have embraced of a system of doctrine from the Scriptures that opens their eyes to so many things that tie the Scriptures together, they that are excited and want to show everyone else, but in their immaturity, they wind up beating people over the head with their knowledge, acting like jerks, and making people feel bad for not knowing what they know, or understanding what they understand.
The irony of this is that the "doctrines of grace" emphasize God's graciousness in opening up the eyes of the spiritually blind in salvation, and yet these Calvinists then act like their knowledge is due to them being smarter or more intelligent than others, and if those others could just think it through, they'd believe it, too. It's definitely a paradoxical way to apply God's grace.
All that to say that I agree with you and Calvinists need to continue to remember God's grace in all things, including those who are either spiritually blind, or not seeing what they are in the Scriptures, and that they should pray for others rather than beat them up and act like jerks.

quote:Totally, and yet I'd say Calvinists have less of an excuse than others for acting this way. At least the Arminian, if he is consistent with his theology, can take some credit for what he believes and does, but the Calvinist doesn't believe that, and therefore it should drive them to pity, pleading, and praying rather than to pride.
Agreed, though I have met a number who have used it as a silent excuse. Its an elevated percentage.
Any excuse for being selfish mankind will take.

quote:From your posts, it looks like instead of being filled with knowledge, you were filled with lies.
I had my entire consciousness pulled from reality, stood in front of God(holy spirit as you would say in that form). Was asked a single question, answered it. Then was filled with instant knowledge and understanding as I know it today. I did not learn from men, I know way more things than I've ever shared.
Your experience is also somewhat unique. Even if one were to grant your premise that we shouldn't look to men for teaching but seek knowledge directly from God, your experience is not shared by most people and shouldn't be expected. You would be unique in this being filled with all knowledge directly from the source, and therefore most people would be absolutely ignorant.
But, that's not how God works. The Bible explains to us how He works, and you seem to be ignoring that. If you want to rely upon your own gnostic understanding, then don't use the Bible to support it, because you would have to arbitrarily pick and choose which verses and passages you want to accept and embrace from the Bible, since you have absolutely ignored those other passages that I have drawn your attention to.
quote:You're right that you don't care about the Bible, since you only use it to justify your experience. I'd image you would support parts of any alleged holy book that supports what you believe through your hallucination or demonic experience, since you are using your experience as the litmus test for revealed truth.
I was agnostic, didn't give a shite about the bible and ultimately still don't. My only interest in Jesus and such came AFTER my experience because the understanding he speaks is the same understanding I was given at that time.
And no, Jesus doesn't speak the same understanding you were given. I've already shown you a couple of things that contradict your alleged understanding, and you have ignored them completely. You don't accept Jesus' teaching; you accept only the teaching that supports what you already believe and you ignore all else, even from the mouth of Christ.
quote:You seem to be proclaiming some form of works-righteousness, or works-based salvation. That isn't unique to you. All religions of the world teach the same thing. Christianity is unique in that it doesn't teach that you can save yourselves through your works, but that you can only be saved through the works of another (Jesus).
Again, as I said - you deny these things are possible and instead have replaced them with the bible and the interpretations given to you by men. A bible in which I was never told was even important to begin with, even as I was taught the commandments, why they were important to keep and why we MUST keep them ourselves.
The Bible is a public testimony of God's revelation to humanity. What you have is a private revelation that is just for you. When the Prophets and Apostles of the Bible received revelation, they also received spiritual gifts to accompany them, to show that their message was really from God. Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead, as did His apostles, to show that the power they had was from God. What are you doing to prove your revelation is from God and not from Satan? Satan, after all, is said to put on an appearance of an angel of light, and even called into question God's own words in the garden in an attempt to demonstrate that he had more insight and wisdom than God, Himself.
quote:What do you mean by "here"? Earth? Being alive? If you are referring to this life, I urge you to stick around as long as you can, though when you leave is up to God, not you, because if you die in this rejection of the truth, you will suffer for eternity. I don't want that for you.
I'm here by choice. I can leave at any time, I do not have to be here.
quote:There has been a lot of sinful abuse since the beginning, and yet that is due to the sinful and fallen nature of man, not the truth revealed by God through the Bible.
And you know what, it's funny as frick that you sit here and talk about how this is dangerous while the entire system you support is nothing but evil and has thousands of years of history pushing evil things getting rich off men and pushing evil in God's name.
Does your knowledge prevent you from sinning? Do you never have sinful thoughts or desires? Do you never break God's law? According to God, Himself, you do. You are a sinner in need of Christ's saving work on the cross just like I am. I urge you to repent, not because of the danger to your body, but to your soul. This life is not even a blink of an eye in relation to eternity, and yet if you do not repent of your sins and rejection of Christ, then you will suffer everlasting anguish without relief for your rejection of an eternal God.
quote:Jesus performed miracles. What power do you have from God to prove your prophetic words are true?
At least you can't stone me for saying these things as they tried to do to Jesus when he did.
