Who would have thought that a disinformation campaign that whipped up a bunch of dumb racists into an angry mob that directly threatened lawmakers could result in those lawmakers adding laws they believe will protect themselves?

This reminds of a concept I learned on these boards awhile back: Hegelian dialectic. It was described as:
1. Govt creates a problem.
2. People ask for help.
3. Our liberties are stripped.
After reading up on it a bit, this may be seen as simplistic. It does describe the problem though. In reviewing how this works optimally, I realized that MSM leveraged the transition from step 1 to 2. The problem ("white nationalists" or just plain "nationalists" that like the idea of America First, are distilled into a threat. MSM disseminates the threats with angry hyperbolic rhetoric. This is accompanied with melodramatic video. The sheeple eat it up and demand help. then step 3 slides smoothly into place. The result is normal people, capable of critical thought, get bent over...again and with force.
