Why are people downvoting this? I have no problem at all with players doing whatever the frick they want to do before or after the anthem, as long as they stand and respect the anthem and the flag. Why do people have a problem with what they did? I'm surprised this still bothered people. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconconfused.gif)

Check mate by Trump, every player stood during the anthem which was what he wanted. I was OK with the kneeling before hand as long as proper respect was shown for the flag during the anthem.

In an email, Brian McCarthy, the NFL’s vice president of communications, shared the portion of the manual that addresses the anthem, and that language is what has been shared on social media but mistakenly attributed to the rulebook.
McCarthy stressed that passage about the national anthem is a guideline and not a requirement. The key words in the operations manual are “should” and “may” and not “must.” No player is required to stand at attention.
That’s why the league has never issued a punishment for a player who didn’t follow the recommendation.
“There is no discipline being considered for any action yesterday,” McCarthy said Monday.

Saying now that should with consequences does not mean they have to. This is some kind of crawfishing.

It does not bother me and makes me smile
I was just pointing out why Jerry Jones had 'his' players to kneel before and not during the anthem.
America Wins.
People see the protest and the people get the anthem. All of them get respected. Now let us have them give some dialogue to affect change before Congress.

Didn't know Social Sermons were part of the game-day experience...

They certainly appear to be trying to highlight the controversy. Very strange.
And, it can't help but be taken as a "frick you" message.
I don't think in my entire lifetime, I've seen a company with a diverse customer base do such a thing.
They likely believe that the fans they are pissing off will come flocking back, no matter how they treat them.

quote:I agree that they are attempting to diversify their fan base, but they already have the "Leftist/progressives." Do you have data that backs your assumption that they don't care about football at as high of a percentage?

They likely believe that the fans they are pissing off will come flocking back, no matter how they treat them.
ETA: The vast majority of their knuckle-dragging, beer-drinking, fantasy-playing fan base doesn't give a shite about the players' political beliefs.

quote:The league is show business, not unlike Hollywood or Broadway. As one of the jewels in the establishment's bread and circuses crown, it is simply playing its role in the game of distract and divide.
The league has definitively taken a position.
This is all being orchestrated and that's why Trump is getting in the middle of it. He's playing out his role in the script.
quote:No. The majority of fans don't care about the political leanings of the players, and the establishment won't allow one of its greatest distractions to take a hit.
Will them taking a position against a substantial portion of their fans hurt them?
In the bigger picture, the NFL isn't some stand alone entity.

In a shocking twist, he still bitched about it.
