As I stated already today in another thread that bemoaned losing “democracy”…we are intentionally not set up as a democracy. Democracy alludes to mob rule. We are a Constitutional Republic. That’s a two-fold protection FROM a mob rule democracy. Good grief our “education “ system sucks balls!

Our system is liberty focused, not democracy focused.

Democracy is like salt in a recipe.

It's good up to a point but too much ruins everything.

Madison and Mason were deeply concerned that some day our servants would become our masters. Today too many in our government bureaucrats see themselves as masters ruling over our citizens.

What we don't need is the possibility of a bunch of nose-ringed pink haired Linda Has-A-Dicks gathering up millions of ballots in their spare time left over from burning police stations and robbing Walmarts colluding to make us up a brand new "constitutional RIGHT" by 'popular vote.'

See my response above. Constitutional Convention, 3/4 majority of States to ratify. The fringe will not have much voice in the matter.

What we have is as close to perfection as can be molded by human intellect

That is BS, and is what Jefferson earned us about. It was a great achievement 250 years ago, but our Founding Fathers were not Gods.

A document that recognizes and accepts slavery is not perfect. A document that excludes people from participation in government is not perfect. And our 17 post ratification amendments are clearly not perfect.

They even provided methods for updating it should the national sense of 'what is required' change

Yes, and the update we need is re-writing the whole thing, as Jefferson said

quote:

. And changing the way we 'conduct our lives' should NEVER be left up to 'popular vote

I agree, never suggested that this should be left up to popular vote.

quote:

Those constitutional 'interpretations' bother you because they pre-date the latest fad emerging from coke-headed university profs who couldn't pour piss out of a boot with the directions on the heel.

I never said they "bothered" me. What I said is we can put them to rest. Why should we debate what our FF would have thought about life today? Let's just decide what we want.

Thomas Jefferson believed that no laws should be eternal. One generation should not impose its beliefs on people who have not even been born.

quote:

The earth belongs always to the living generation… Every constitution, then, and every law, naturally expires at the end of 19. years. If it be enforced longer, it is an act of force and not of right.

Thomas Jefferson in a letter to James Madison.

We shouldn't force our Nation's adherence to an ancient document. We should have the right to choose it.

That's exactly how I feel about our 100+ year old income tax system.
