It depends on where in the country you go. In a way he's right, in a good part of the country people don't really care in casual day to day interactions. But in some parts (specifically NYC and its Metro Area) people are more obsessed with it than Aggies are with LSU. It's all people talk about nearly 24/7. Not to mention the other places you spoke on with their policies for restaurants. But the place that is really the strictest is NYC. Even SF was surprisingly pretty lax about showing vaccination cards in comparison.
