quote:

a remarkable gulf has emerged between professional critics and the general viewing public’s scoring of the movie – as illustrated by that modern barometer of movies, Rotten Tomatoes. On the review aggregation site, the professionals give the movie an impressive average score of 93pc; while fans score it a more Luke-warm 55pc.

Sad

That movie was crap

And I say that without reference to anything political. It was just a bad movie.

Yes, because no movie should ever be about the political or cultural climate in which they are made..

Stars Wars isn't an allegory about today's politics, it's a work of fantasy set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

To think any intelligent life our there is also mired in identity politics for political gain is depressing.

Apparently it is both? Isn't that what this thread is bitching about?

But the truth is that identity politics is the kryptonite that saps the joy out of all it touches.

Ain't that the truth.

He needs to be less qualified to sell the reality of affirmative action.

That movie was terrrrrrible. So much so, it might be the last Star Wars movie I ever watch.

Fantasy is women being in charge without a man to truly take over and save the day.

Rogue One was great.

The Last Jedi fricking sucked.

The Force is no longer something special that one must train and work hard to use. Perfect for the generation of instant gratification.

Rogue One was great.

Not sure why these other two aren’t good. I can’t pinpoint it, but it’s not political in my eyes.

I enjoyed it and the ending with Vader was perfect for his character.

Anakin had to train hard to use it? Kid was pod racing and using the force at 9 years old (before he ever encountered a jedi). Luke also picked up the basics extremely quickly.

"The Force Awakens" isn't referring to Rey. It's a galaxy-wide awakening.. a new era of force users and one where dogmatic cults like the jedi and sith aren't pulling the strings.. bringing actual balance to the force.

There is nothing difficult about using the force if you really look at it. Dogma is difficult, though.
