Finn and the ex-stormtrooper girl had some real chemistry. They actually made a cute couple.
It is always a black guy with a girl of any another ethnicity except black.

I'm not jumping into whatever fight is going on here, but I was a little disappointed that I didn't even notice the hot lesbo action after everyone had made such a big deal out of it.

Hubby & I went to see it. I really enjoyed it. It was more true to Star Wars than the last one, for sure. Now. It wasn't perfect and I do think it could have been shorter: 2 hrs, 22 min was too long. But overall it was worth watching.

Which was 2 seconds too long but honestly, they could've just let it role for 1 second. That was my only criticism b/c like OP said, it seemed forced versus just a natural celebration of people in the background. Overall good movie, though.

I certainly did not make a big deal out of it. I made a passing comment about how forced it was, and a couple of our resident progs developed a yeast infection reading it.

Yeah, only thing I minded was the forced nature of it. “Here are two black people, they are also former stormtroopers, they should hook up despite just meeting”
Honestly the interracial relationship between Rey and Finn is way more natural and developed and as such is pretty much uncontroversial. Though I was ok with how they handled that as well.

I pretty much agree with what you are saying but a colleague of mine at work who happens to be an AA lady always jokes that in the movies the black male NEVER EVER has a romantic role with a black female unless it is specifically a movie with predominantly black actors.

Sure, I get that. But the character really seemed jammed in there.
But this was part of my reaching to come up with the most SJW moments I could. It’s two pretty minor things set against a lot of fixing the terrible legacy of the last film.

That's another thing....I read about viewers wanting a romantic relationship b/w these two, even the actors themselves referenced it on some article which was linked here this week. Anyway, I like the direction they took with Poe and his ex from the planet that was blown up. It was endearing yet funny. Besides, Finn & Poe had NO chemistry like that so it CERTAINLY would have been forced.

YES!!! And being stuck on (whatever that ship was that was going down at the end) and her being willing to stay with him to help defeat the Sith made it better. Would be a good pairing for sure.

Trust me, if it were "hot lesbo action" my husband would've liked it. He didn't & felt it was pointless.

I can see where BigJim is coming from in that pairing being somewhat forced but they tried to make the connection that they were both stolen as children and forced to join the empire... a good icebreaker to talk about on their first Tinder date! ....lol

Can't take my kids to a show with a scene like that.
Too bad they ruined a whole movie by screwing up one scene.
I'm sure there are more PC scenes that will make it unwatchable for kids.

Your kids will NEVER notice it. It is like the last scene of the movie and it is gone in like a second.
There are like 100 people hugging and celebrating and it is mish-mashed in the middle of it.
My 11yo son who watched the movie like a hawk completely missed it (did not notice it).
