With the stance that pro teams and their owners have taken to get involved with politics why are taxpayers still footing the bill for their stadiums and direct payments to the teams? If Gayle Benson wants to have the Saints and or Pelicans support all this bullshite why should the taxpayers be forced to cover her bottom line?

ETA: Gayle not Rita owns the saints/pelicans

They shouldn't.

Maybe that's next on GOAT POTUS plate.

I still think this is a reset of some form.

I'm gonna get pretty far out here on a limb and say because the economic benefits are way more than the cost.

Pretty high level stuff, here.

The proponents, fans ect. ALWAYS spout this bullshite but numbers are never presented to back up the claim. You got numbers?

La politicians used the same "logic" with the La. film tax credit deal, even after it was proven a net cost to tax payers.

Folks complain constantly about WIC and EBT, etc. while the Bensons rake in millions from LA taxpayers - the wealthiest woman in the state.

I know if people do t go to a saints game they spend that money elsewhere. An average American can put together $500 and you think with out saints games they will start saving now? These owners are all worth billions and the state gives them tens of million a year.

Even before the BLM arse sucking and licking , I thought it was a crime to steal tax money and build stadiums and arenas for BILLIONAIRES.

I truly believe politicians are getting kickbacks for approving the bullshite.

The econonomic impact on the city of Atlanta was $400 million. If the Final four wasn't canceled this year, they likely would have benefitted another $150 million. Taxpayers paid around $700 million, almost "covered" in 2 events. Then you include property taxes, state payroll taxes, utilities, jobs created, sales taxes from merchanise/concessions, all the other shite they bring in and pay out to the city on a monthly basis, its obvious very quickly the city benefits more from having a team and a stadium than not. I can't even really believe we're having this discussion.

Take a bunch of money from people making 50-60k a year and give it to billionaires then meanwhile raise taxes because you can’t balance the budget. Rent offices at exhorbitant rates in Benson tower to further subsidize the gravy train

The state has made more than the Bensons rich off of the professional teams. Think about the upgrades to the Superdome, the addition of the Smoothie King Center and costs of construction and consulting.

This state throws more money to bull shite entertainment than to actual necessity. It’s why we will never have nice things in Louisiana.

Taxpayer money should NEVER be stolen and given to ANY private business.

You must not pay much in taxes.

I mean, I get this is an LSU board but the stupidity on display around here is astonishing.

That's a completely differen topic and has nothing to do with whether the city benefits economically or not.

Believe it or not, pro sorts teams have major positive externalities on the surrounding communities. It's not rocket science.

Taxpayers and tourists get raked by these pro team owners.
- funds (municipal taxes) could be WAY better spent
- 6.5% stadium taxes on rental cars from airport (added to city/state/airport taxes)
- hotel taxes (Atlanta charges 31%, and I am NOT exaggerating)

Benefits?? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Georgia Dome was 19 years old when they broke ground on MB Stadium?? NINETEEN YEARS??? frick YOU NFL!!

ETA: Another annoying example, when I lived in Houston, the city charged $20 to park at Astrodome/Reliant, for almost every event. As a taxpayer, I found that to be utter theft, to charge that much for a parking lot that has been in use since ~1964!

Arthur Blank paid for most of MBS and as I showed, in just 2 events the city will have seen their money recouped.

That's really not a good example for your argument.

You do realize not every state has an income tax don't you ?

Who pays for all of the police that are needed on gameday ?

Is it the owner of the team or taxpayers ?
