You poor thing. I know you hate seeing your fairy tales busted.
You asked a question in the OP, question answered and you cry like a bitch.

And the facts are that trade wars are inflationary, and we have been in one since 2018.
With a flailing economy and you think thats a "win."

quote:Again, you completely refuse to engage with the actual argument.
Some are punitive. Others are to bring back mfg. Long term is a subsidy to targeted industry at the expense of small biz.
The reciprocal tariffs (those tariffs with a stated policy goal of forcing foreign countries to remove anti-US tariffs), by their very nature are designed to be short term. Once the foreign tariffs are removed, the US tariff is removed—that’s what the reciprocal part means.
We know that’s what they’re for because that has been their stated policy goal.
We have strong evidence that they are being applied in earnest and not as a subterfuge for long term tariffs because Trump has already suspended some announced tariffs (e.g., against Colombia, Mexico, and Canada). These suspended tariffs were punitive and not reciprocal, but they provide valuable evidence nonetheless because if Trump wanted tariffs for tariffs’ sake, then why suspend them?
It’s because they’re being used as a tool to influence foreign behavior and not as a means of general economic policy.
As for the tariffs that were in place from the first term that are not reciprocal tariffs, yes, they are ill-advised, as I’ve already said. But please, keep arguing with some imaginary poster instead of engaging with my posts.

And we've had them for 7 years. We have a full blown trade war which is detrimental to you.
I remember when MAGAts revolted at Obama's tariffs.
I guess you were lying them

You deny objective facts, Gomer.
If you want the truth about tariffs (and you dont) you need to listen to people not named Trump or who work for him.

We've moved into phase three.

TBH. Who really knows what he wants to do with tariffs. Is it just reciprocal? Is it to replace the income tax? Is it to punish allies for not enforcing immigration laws? Or allowing drugs to cross the border? Is it to protect domestic manufacturing? It can't do all of those things, tariffs are not a panacea, and they have the potential of being harmful to the economy if not done correctly. I've always been fine with reciprocal tariffs, but I really have no idea what the tariffs are for beyond that.

Apple is moving their new production facility to the US, instead of Mexico.
There. Tariffs at work.

True.
Which will most likely increase to close the income gap as Trumps tariffs are never going to replace income taxes like he thinks.

Replace income taxes like he thinks?
You think Trump also actually expects Canada to become a state?

Trolling. Something he's not doing with his tariff proposals.
Youre old enough to know the difference.

Roger has the ability to know what Trump really thinks despite what his written policies are. It’s a remarkable talent. Of course, he is an idiot that thinks he is a lot smarter than he is. Which makes his predictions almost universally incorrect.

What do you think is going to happen to prices for imported goods when you apply a tariff to them?
Will American citizens pay more, less, or the same for those goods?
When you find the correct answer among those choices, you will see the issue.
Let's think about this. You say that tariffs only increase the prices for consumers in the country enacting them. Every country has tariffs on US goods.
So, there's only a few possibilities.
1. The world leaders know that tariffs only hurt their own people but they are using them anyways because they just want to hurt their own citizens
2. All the world leaders and their citizens have had tariffs against us for decades but none of them have yet realized they are only hurting themselves
3. There's a benefit to tariffs you stubbornly refuse to admit
Which one do you think is the most likely?
