Interesting.

Thoughts?

*I guess in China they get graded by how they are socially. I think it would be a good thing. Could be a bad thing depending on what areas you would be graded on and by whom. However, in today's society, maybe, a reward somehow would be a good incentive.

Reminds me of an 80s song.

What?

This is actually a priority of our military for recruiting. The whole person concept. Get away from the waivers and if there are waivers, what have they done positive in their life.

I’ve been warning folks to watch out for this for awhile now. If the rollout in China is even moderatly smooth, it’s the exact kind of proposal I can see modern liberals getting behind. There aren’t many golbal social policies that are more important to keep an eye on today than the Chinese Citizen Score system. It has the potential to be paradigm shifting, for the better or more likely worse

This an outgrowth of the blank-slate insanity wrought by the Boomers.

Since actual intelligence and aptitude tests show disparities, and reflect that we aren't actually equal, they've devised other "forms of intelligence" to measure to "close the gap".

It's a horrifying, Orwellian concept. Are you serious?

For folks who haven’t heard yet and don’t know what this is, China is currently in a testing period for a national citizen score system, planned to go into full effect in 2020. The idea is that every aspect of a person’s digital footprint will be compiled to determine their overall trustworthiness. Ratings criteria will include obvious things like goods purchased, slightly more borderline things like time spent gaming, and even, most terrifingly, social media posts by your friend and contact circle. So if you have a friend post something about Tiananmen square, it would not only effect your friend’s score (problematic enough in it’s own right), but it would effect yours as well. Essentially it incentivizes you to disconnect with people with opinions that dissent from government positions.

That’s particularly problematic because a person’s citizen score will effect things like their access to credit, education, and visa travel. It truly has the potential to be a revolutionary advancement in social construction. Including in all the worst ways.

No. Maybe I shouldnt have used those words because i dont know the indepth background on it.

I meant more specifically like a credit score.

No tickets, get rewarded
No, use on gov ben, get rewarded
If you have a degree, so on and so forth
Being healthy
upstanding citizen, get rewarded

Stuff like that

The difference between the Chinese system and the black mirror episode is that the latter was based on overall social feedback from the popularion at large. The Chinese system derives their rating from an algorithm constructed at the government’s will to identify the particular characteristics they find most important at the moment.

Jin doesn’t seem like the type of leader to grossly abuse the system, especially not with as much of a spotlight on it as it will have early. But the framework will clearly be in place for a single leader with the wrong desires to find a way to turn this system into a horrifying dystopia

Not even close. While everything we do online is monitored and stored, it isn’t all continually evaluated and used to rank us. If it was, your citizen score would likely take a hit for posting on this website which is known to include alt right posters, potentially excluding you from attending the college you were interested in or traveling abroad.

Okay but with my post above about it not being controlling, would a reward system help our society?

It's going to happen regardless of if it's a good idea or not. And when we start wearing the AR glasses, you'll be able to see it hanging over the head of every last person you come across whether you know them or not eventually.

Yes, that's scary as hell, but it's going to end up being part of the new 'currency'. You conform or else.
