Let me tell you, C# is NOT EASY but using Visual Studio 2019 instead of 2017 makes it easier. Learning Git is no picnic either. Fortunately I don't have to learn Python right now.

My advice is to work for yourself and not somebody eles unless they are the side job.

C and C++ is harder, so consider yourself lucky.

Imagine having to also code the GUI with no dragging and dropping in VS, or keep track of pointers, or keep track of allocating space.

You misunderstand. For my current internship, I need to know enough about the code to REVIEW it and recommend fixes, not to make applications from scratch or wholesale changes.

C# is the universal programming language from Microsoft that combines elements of C and C++ with elements of Java.

Simply put, it combined those with .NET and allows you to manipulate multiple metrics, variables and interfaces simultaneously.

Git is a version control system that greatly reduces the time needed to review your code.

That seems impossible.

Not really if you know what to look for. You don't need to build an entirely new piece of code when you look at the existing project in Visual Studio and can see that the project is searching for a certificate but missing the string that points to the certificate store.

You should dabble in some database programming. It’s easier and you can find a job just about everywhere.

I might. My primary experience is the business, managerial and stakeholder expectation management side of IT. I have more of an ITIL and SEC+ background than a programming background.

For my fellowship with Microsoft, I am required to at least have a rudimentary knowledge of code to contribute as a Site Reliability Engineer, so I'm going to learn to code.

Going to be tough to get a job when all the coal miners flood the market.

I thought that was relatively easy to learn?

I’m so screwed if they close my coal mine.

Java and C# are very similar, just different syntax. Same concepts of object oriented programming.

Wouldn't know, but I'm going to try that if I have spare time.

I have little background aside from a FORTRAN class my freshman year and an Assembly class my junior year (over 20 years ago).

Were you a coal miner first? Did you go down 3,000 feet in a mine?

Good luck. I didn't mean (if I did) to come across like I know everything. Had I been born about 2 years later in life I would probably have majored is computer programming field. I took a Fortran course at LSU my junior year but by then I wasn't about to switch majors. Yes Fortran... I am that old. haha

Taught myself a little C++ years ago. Now I just to webpage stuff for myself. Not my primary income by a long shot.
