It's free to obtain an ID in the state of Mississippi. They will even come to your house to take the photo and print it off for you right there if you are unable to make it to their office due to a disability.

I guarantee you the people who don't want to show ID to vote have shown an ID in the past for something else they wanted.

If it's free then I have no issue, other than the fact that taxpayer money is finding the program. But that is a drop in the bucket.

In Mississippi you have to have a state issued ID. It's not hard to get ahd it's not expensive. If Mississippians can afford I don't see how the rest of the country can't.

You have to have ID to get welfare and food stamps so please spare me the racist and poor folks can't afford it crap

You're assuming the people who don't want to show ID don't already have one. I would bet that 99% of them have some form of ID that could be used to vote. The issue is they don't want to use it. Why would that be?

They probably aren't eligible to vote.

Now, the reasons for it may or may not be because they did something illegal (like felons) but something as simple as being lazy and not registering to vote properly.

Or you can go the conspiracy theorist route and say they are trying to vote multiple times in multiple precincts to ensure their candidate wins.

My point is that the people who are against voter ID likely use some form of ID to obtain other things like alcohol, tobacco, mature video games or movies, etc.

Maybe, but I think it would be more because some Ds are probably more likely to be too lazy to get the ID in the first place.

Then they should not vote.

Voting ought to be a demonstration of some combination of duty/responsibility/thoughtfulness/knowledge.

To not register - to not get an ID - all demonstrate that voting is just an impulse type of thing. That is not what we should champion as good for the electorate.

How do you feel about automatic voter registration?

Why do we even have a voter registration process? Why not just go by social security #?

If your SSN has been marked as "voted" then you can't use it again. Simple.

Which takes about as much time as voting.

Sounds more retarded than lazy.

Even illegals get them.

Just like Voter Motor laws where when you get a drivers license you are registered to vote

If the process is put in place to revoke the voter's registration if they screw up I'd be okay with it.

You have people who don't want to vote because they don't want to be drafted or perform jury duty. Registering to vote does more than just signing you up to cast a ballot every four years.

Or you just show an ID at your proper polling precinct and vote like any other law abiding citizen.

The power of databases in 2016: We can flag which SSN's are legal to vote with and which are not.

Didn't they change the jury duty thing because voter turnout went down so much?

Registering for the draft is a completely different thing.

They don't get that attention by voting and getting an ID, as evidenced by the fact only a small percentage of the protesters/rioters who were arrested (the most attention seeking of bunch) actually voted.

You know I was confused by this story on two different cable channels. One (?) indicated the 70% had not voted, but fashioned the statement to indicate "in that county or Oregon". Implying that they came from other parts. The other channel just stated 70% had not voted.

Yes, but one of the side effects of registering to vote when you haven't signed up for Selective Service is this:

quote:

Voting might not be tied directly to registration, but they do compare the two lists. My husband, when he grew up in California, didn't register for Selective Service. When he registered to vote, he got a letter saying hey, we notice you didn't register for Selective Service, we've used your voting registration information to do it for you!

People who have no desire to be drafted typically don't want to be registered to vote either so making it automatic would affect these people and we'd probably hear about how racist that is too.

Sort of. They used to use voter registration lists, but now they pull data from the DMVs, IRS Tax Return databases and property tax information (from people buying houses).

So, they still pull jury lists from voter registration, but they also get people's names for doing other things a citizen would do.

States with voter ID laws are typically R leaning states so it's not surprising the R candidate wins them.

...and states that don't have voter id laws have rampant fraud and lean Democrat. I know, because I vote in 3 of them.

Thanks been looking for something like this.

So in Cali for example, you can walk up and cast a vote without anything?

When I turned 18, I went to the polls the following month to vote in local elections (2009). I was told I couldn't because I didn't register properly. Being told you can't vote is a pretty shitty feeling.

That sounds like your problem.

I've been voting since I was 18 (1984). Never had an issue.
