Columbia had a 50%+ acceptance rate in the 1970s.

It was very, very easy to transfer into Columbia in the 1970s.

UPenn had an acceptance rate closer to 60% in the 1970s.

You could be a middling student and get into Columbia if your test scores were fairly average back then.

Why would being foreign make sense in him getting in?

Columbia caps the number of foreign students at around 10%-12% of the class because they still get federal funding despite being a private institution.

Obama getting into Columbia as a middling student in the 1970s really isn't evidence of anything. Columbia had a 50% acceptance rate back then.
