Why stop at undergrad?

I’d love a free masters or doctorate.

You should understand it's less about your narrow view of results and more about the process of learning and growing.

College absolutely does not make stupid people smart. It can make a less educated person more educated, but it can't turn an idiot into a smart person

There are a lot of idiots with college degrees out there.

Well at least you would learn not to refer to yourself in the third person.

Since we're dissecting sentences, and correcting grammar this sentence from you makes NO sense.

Okay sport, here's your chance. Explain to me how asking the tax payer to pay for your health care insurance OR your college education is any different than asking the tax payer to pay for your home or your new vehicle? The obvious answer is that it is NO different, but let's see you spin it.
theres no way people actually think this way
quote:

What's the difference between your free education and my free truck?
oh dear god people actually do think this.

ok.

I cant believe i even have to say this, but, very obviously, the benefit of an educated populous far outweighs the benefit of a bunch of people with trucks.

the fact that I even had to explain that proves my point. here, no less.

education > trucks.

everyone got that?

this board is mostly Christian, right? does "teach a man to fish" ring any bells? have you heard that one? that guy can now not only take care of himself, but help others too. he was taught how to do something, and his education benefits everyone.

this is also cheaper, btw, since you would pay for college once but a new truck every 5 or 6 years.

quote:

I would even argue that $100K spent on new truck puts more into the overall economy than $100K put into college education does. I mean if the point of the government spending money on such things it to improve the economy and all.
just to hit this one too; its not about giving money to a school or student. its an investment, not a gift. you have to spend money on education, this is a different way to do that.

tldr; education = good

Strangely, while education levels rise in this country, decision making skills and problem solving skills decline.

We're raising generations of parrots and robots.

Just Recovery for Puerto Rico???? Huh? Maybe they should clean themselves up before asking us to clean them up.

People should really go visit Puerto Rico and see just how much has been done. I have spent more time there this past year than at home and it is nicer than it has been in a long time. What is hurting Puerto Rico is the negative press coverage that keeps tourist away. Instead of getting 3-5 cruise ships a day to San Juan it's getting 1 a day. You can easily fine nice AirBNB's for $150 a night in Old San Juan that would normally be $300-$400 a night.

In short, the municipalities that were proactive are doing great and the ones that sit back and did nothing thinking it would help them get more money are lagging behind. It just came out that the Mayor of San Juan had purchased property in New York a while back and has plans to run for congress there which is why she did so much to slow down aide in the first place.

No one can complain about about what all has been done there and continues to be done there.

Does it really?

Let's say Gm/Ford/Ram get 500K more truck sales per year from trucks that are bought for tax payers with government money. You would be hard pressed to prove that more people weren't helped through the supply chain of building those additional trucks than if the same amount of money were spent on college education.

Proving what I said earlier. Education =/= intelligence.

What good is a woman's studies degree if you can't even balance your fricking checkbook and end up living with mom and dad because you aren't smart enough to maintain your own day to day life?
