This is CNN (James Earl Jones voice)

quote:

Yemen's air force on Saturday targeted an airport in Saudi Arabia's capital with a ballistic missile, according to Yemen's Houthi-controlled Defense Ministry.

But the missile was intercepted over northeast Riyadh, the Saudi Ministry of Defense said in a statement carried on government-backed Al-Arabiya television.

Yemen's Defense Ministry said the missile attack "shook the Saudi capital" and the operation was successful. It said the attack was conducted using a Yemeni-made, long-range missile called the Burqan 2H.

The Riyadh airport tweeted that it hadn't been affected.

Saudis tweeting now too...... MAGA

BTW: intercepted by the PATRIOT missile defense system.

From what I’m seeing on Twitter, there may have been a failed coup attempt in Saudi today.

Saudi is about to carpet bomb Yemen.

We have an airbase in Djibouti not far from Yemen.
I'm sure they are on high alert.

Wish North Korea could get a nuke to both Riyadh and Mecca.

11 princes is nothing too serious, there are princes all over the place, right. But 4 ministers seems a bit more troubling, if I am correct.

An attempted coup? Wow.

Time to bomb Iran.

Actually this is not the first one they have shot down, it is the first targeting Riyadh, though.

I think it is more like:

Yemini Burqan 2H - 0

U.S. Patriot - 3 or 4

The coup likely has nothing to do with Iran. Saudi Arabia already had a soft coup when Mohammed bin Salman became crown prince and Muhammad bin Nayef was deposed. This is more likely to do with getting out people loyal to bin Nayef and finding a reason to clean house. Iran doesn't have that sort of influence to push something like this in the KSA. In traditionally Shia areas, yes, but not in Saudi Arabia, inside the family of the crown prince no less.

Well, when an acknowledged enemy launches ballistic missiles at an Allies' population centers, the USA is not going to say "frick Saudi Arabia" regardless of your feelings on the issue.

I'll take "the guys trying to kill me today" over "the guys maybe trying to kill me tomorrow, but allowing us strategic infrastructure to safeguard our interests in the region" for $100,000,000,000.00, Alex.
