Why didn’t the Romanian F-16’s shoot it down? The tracked it over Romanian territory and subsequently allowed it to strike a Romanian apartment building? They need better training. Maybe NATO needs a little skirmish with the Bear to hone their combat skills? They sound “soft”?

UPDATES: Romanian President Nicos Dan convened a meeting of the Supreme National Defense Council following the incident of a russian drone crashing into a residential building in the city of Galati.
In his post on the social network X, the president stated that the responsibility for the incident lies entirely with the Russian Federation. He stressed that Romania will respond “proportionately, decisively and in a coordinated manner” both at the national level and together with its allies in the EU and NATO.
The event has already caused a sharp reaction in Bucharest, as well as among European partners, who expressed solidarity with Romania and supported its right to respond within the framework of international law and allied security mechanisms.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Toiu said that the incident with the downing of the Russian drone could meet the criteria for the application of Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which provides for consultations between NATO member states in the event of a threat to their territorial integrity, political independence or security.

Balkans never were part of USSR. They were an independent country not aligned to tUSSR. They actually opposed Soviet influence.

Bulgaria was influenced by soviet communism and was a close ally of the ussr during the Cold War.

Damn so Ukranian hacked a Russian drone and steered it across the border to attack Romania. Will Romania declare war on Ukraine for attacking it or continue to send it Nato war equipment. If i was Romanian i would feel betrayed by my government.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense stated that the Russian drone was tracked for only four minutes, which did not allow sufficient time for its safe interception.
The Russian drone was not shot down because it could have posed a significant risk to civilians and infrastructure, the ministry said.
Officials stated that it was initially unclear whether the drone was armed with explosives or a decoy, and after analyzing the incident, they concluded that there was no safe opportunity to intercept it.
