Rosenstein just told CNN that he asked Trump whether Trump wanted the indictments announced before or after the Helsinki summit. Trump told him to release them before. This had been rumored for a few days, but Rosey confirmed it (to CNN of all places):

quote:

CNN can now confirm Rod Rosenstein did in fact give Trump the option to delay announcing the Russian hacking indictment until *after* the Helsinki summit. The White House told Rosenstein it was OK to announce before the summit, so he did. (from @Kevinliptakcnn and @LauraAJarrett

Now some people are saying Trump is claiming he did it to "strengthen his hand" at the summit. I don't know if Trump has said that or not.

EDIT: DailyBeast is reporting the "strengthen my hand" story:

quote:

Trump told Rosenstein to announce the indictments of 12 Russian intelligence officials before his summit with Putin because he hoped "it would strengthen his hand in the talks"

Wait

I thought the DOJ was separate from the WH?

RR needs to be fired if true.

If the story is true, then Trump gave "OK" to prevent the "muh Collusion/Obstruction" aftermath of him saying wait.

sound like another entrapment case of trump being set up, but he said release ahead of summit, and took away their ammunition

Exactly.

The indictments have been sitting there for months. Nothing in the indictments is new information, it has all been known for more than a year.

They were holding the indictments specifically for this date for a reason.

It has been reported that Trump was briefed on this before he left the country. He was also briefed on the Russian Troll Farm indictments before they were announced. How often is someone prebriefed on indictments when they are a target of the investigation?
